We knew it was coming, the 'drugs did it' defense

You ever notice how white conservatives push personal responsibility until they get caught and asked to take personal responsibility for their actions.  Like someone is caught in an affair, then they conveniently blame sex addiction and go for treatment.  As if the treatment was never available prior to them getting caught.

Or posting anti Semitic rants, and then blaming the alcohol addiction. I mean, it is probable that with all the movies made about alcoholism and all the treatment centers there was never any indication you had a problem before you got caught, so sure, lets give you a pass.  You were not responsible for your actions, or seeking treatment, or being a vile human being.  Maybe all the non-catholics in the world conspired you from getting treatment.

And now, not even a day later, we get Roseanne Barr blaming the Ambien. Like a kid who steals his fathers gun and shoot up a school, we can’t blame her.  There were factors.  Somebody treated her badly.  She got the blues.  She turned to drugs.  She tweeting under the influence.  We should find it in our heart to forgive because she, after all, is the victim here.

Not so long ago being drunk while driving was occasionally used as an affirmative defense for vehicular homicide.  If you were drunk you were not responsible for your actions, so how could you be charged with any crime.  It took a long time for it to be clear that the drunk person who murdered the victim made a decision to get drunk and decision to driver which lead to a decision to murder.

While we know hold people responsible for DUI, there are so many other cases where people think that loss of control is equal to loss of responsibility.  Like gun owners who drive around with loaded weapons then accidentally kill others.  Or recreational drug users who get high knowing they can them blame the drugs for their actions.
