It is my theory that that the president-elect does not in fact have any faith in the power of the United States or it’s workforce. His wife is an immigrant, which is not a thing one way another, but was there not a suitable US born woman?
His clothes are made in Mexico and China. As Trump only makes the best, it can only be inferred that US workers are not capable of making the best products. This is reinforced by his use of Chinese steel and other building materials.
Trump, as a businessman, will say that it is not that US workers produce inferior product, but that regulations keep him from hiring US workers and use US products. But it he is only selling the best, then why would regulation stop him from hiring the best?
Then there is the case of United Technology. Indiana is paying millions of dollars our of the treasury to help this company move half the workforce to Mexico. Why would Trump cut such a deal, encouraging other companies to move to Mexico, while keeping a skeleton crew in the US? Why would he say, hey, move to Mexico and we will pay you $1000 a year for each job you move for the next 10 years? Obviously because he thinks that US workers produce crap. He thinks that increased quality, not regulation, is why firms to Mexico.
Then there is the case of the Trump Vineyards in Virginia. Apparently the labor force in that state is so inadequate that the Trump Family has to hire 6 immigrant workers. `These are jobs that pay over minimum wage, almost $11 an hour. Admittedly the unemployment rate in Virginia is lower that the national average, but it is hard to believe there are not 6 workers in the state that could fill the job, unless, we believe, as Trump apparently does, that US workers are inherently inferior. That is why H2 and similar visa programs are do important. Workers believe, sometime correctly, that such programs exist only to undercut US wages. Trump seems to believe that these programs allow him to get workers so he can make the best.
