I am believe in Black Lives Matter in that I believe that people with dark skin are shot more often by police than others, that people with lighter skin all too often assume that people with darker skin are inherently dangerous and need to be shot, and that much of the reluctance to enact gun control is in fact related to the fact related to white people belief that they have the right to kill black people.
I don’t always agree with Black Lives Matter solutions. I don’t think documented a killing is going to result in less killing. We have a lot of documentation of police killing unarmed people with no provocation. It does not seem to reduce the number of killing. I think the solution is to say that white people do not have the inherent right to take the life of a person of color. I think the solution is to interpret the second amendment as the right to defend oneself in extreme circumstances like the Queen of the UK coming to your house and demanding lodging, not as the right to kill without consequences.
I also believed that Black Lives Matter was not necessarily a cause of only the Democrats. That Republicans could believe that Black Lives Matter and that cops should no kill children holding cell phones or adults trying to buy an air powered gun. Apparently I was wrong.
A group of female cadets in uniform at West Point are shown in a photo raising their fists. This is taken as a sign of support for Black Lives Matters, which is taken as a violation of the restriction of engaging in partisan activity while in uniform. So the desire to not to see cops murder people of color is partisan? So presumably Republicans support cops murdering Black people? How about Jewish People, or Hispanic People?
Some might say what if the soldier was making a gang sign or holding a Swastika? My first reply is that Black Lives Matter is not really anything like a gang or a white supremacist. It is a comparison people who support killing Black people like to make. My second would be that I would hope the military would be able to charge these people under hate speech, but who knows. An organization that would charge women who are simply concerned that they may be shot in cold blood by a cop who thinks they are playing dress up in their military garb has questionable standards.
Which is not say that what these women did is not questionable given that they are in uniform, or that the military does not have valid reasons for making and enforcing such rules. However I fail to see that BLM is solely the property of the left or right.
